About CARDEW Hay/Barn 21 and Dick cardew
Richard “Dick” Cardew is the founder and managing member of Cardew Hay Co/Barn 21, LLC. Cardew Hay/Barn 21 is based out of the farming community of Buckeye, Arizona and started out of the back of a pickup truck. Cardew Hay/Barn 21 has since grown to be one of the leading forage commodity suppliers in the country, supplying quality hay products throughout the United States.
Mr. Cardew has been engaging in entrepreneurial pursuits since the age of 10. His father, Jerry Cardew, was the local banker in a small town. The elder Cardew would spend hours explaining to his son how the shops and stores in their town made money, and what practices a smart small businessman should subscribe to. From a very young age Dick was fascinated with the different ways a person could make money via a small business. Barn 21 got it's name from the distinction of being the first barn that Dick sold hay out of. Today, Cardew Hay/Barn 21 has nearly 50 barns storing their hay year round. Mr. Cardew married his high school sweetheart in 1997. Together they have 4 daughters. In his free time Dick serves on the Southern Arizona International Livestock Association board, The Arizona Chamber of Commerce and Industry, The NFIB, Arizona Farm Bureau, along with several other organizations. The Cardew family is a proud supporter of the Arizona FFA Foundation, Phoenix Children's Hospital, and numerous Junior livestock auctions, sports teams, and non profit organizations. |

Dedicated to creating a gold standard, Dick Cardew has created a loyal network of quality alfalfa producers. Prior to becoming a Cardew Hay/Barn 21 certified grower, Mr. Cardew and his team personally inspect each grower’s field, along with reviewing the methods used by those growers. Only after a stringent vetting process and quality review will a grower be integrated into the network.
Understanding how critical the nutritional balance can be with alfalfa as premium horse forage, Cardew Hay/Barn 21 avoids “first and last cuts”. Prior to cutting, Cardew Hay does additional field inspections to determine how conditions will affect the quality of the crop. It is this dedication to a consistent, year round, high quality product which is the basis of the Cardew Hay Alfalfa Gold Standard.
